Hyperion Construction was founded in 2001 by Joseph Gadzik. After attending the US Naval Academy
and serving in the Marine Corps, Joseph wanted to apply those leadership skills in the civilian sector by
creating a construction company with an emphasis on sustainability and “Doing the basics well.” In the
Marine Corps it was such things as taking the time to write a thorough operations order, making sure
that whenever training rounds are fired the Marine gets feedback on its impact, make a terrain model so
that unit leaders can “see” the environment they will encounter, etc. In the world of construction, it is
much the same. Do what you say you are going to do. Return phone calls. Show up when you say you
are going to. Communicate if there is a change of plans. Clearly and effectively talk through and capture
decisions and expectations. Since its inception, Hyperion Construction has prided itself on “Doing the
basics well.”
Over the years and the varied economic circumstances the face of that has continued to change and
evolve. What began as a passion for green and sustainable new housing changed with the recession of
2008 to focus on existing homes and keeping the inventory that we have strong and sustainable into the
future. That moved into structural repairs/rebuilding which led to the purchase of earthmoving
equipment. That equipment and capability quickly became a larger part of our business model and has
continued to evolve to today’s current mix of forestry services, demolition, and excavation. While it
sometimes feels like we are not in an easily defined sector, our experience is that these three disciplines
are actually very complimentary and frequently intermingled. Our ability to do all three with a high
degree of proficiency fills a very rewarding and needed niche in the market.
The desire for sustainability and to create a positive impact is still a strong motivation in our
organization. We are proud of our role in rebirthing structures which are no longer serving their highest
use into more usable space, reducing the need to build on the outskirts and to contribute to sprawl. We
also have a deep love for the land and specifically the trees that contribute to our livelihood. Whether
it’s thinning and clearing brush/invasives to create a higher use for the land, crafting waterways and
features to preserve our topsoil, or helping to clear downed trees and limbs after the latest natural
disaster we are proud of the way that our work supports and sustains. While we are open to
development and new construction projects, conservation, sustainability, and health will always be our
priority and preference. If that sounds like the capabilities and fit you are seeking, we look forward to
hearing more about your next project.
